A Lawyer Who Helped the Kushners Crack Down on Poor Tenants Now Helps Renters Fight Big Landlords

Andrew Rabinowitz was representing a property management company owned by the family of Jared Kushner , President Trump 's son-in-law.

He was representing the Kushner Companies , which owns many large apartment complexes in the Baltimore area.

The next time I saw him in court was in February , almost eight years later , he was defending tenants.

I tracked him down at the Landlord and Tenant Branch of the District of Columbia Courts .

ProPublica 's John Sutter : Rabinowitz worked as a tenant's attorney in Baltimore , Maryland .

He says he prided himself on getting landlords to accept less than what they believed they were owed and working out payment plans with tenants.

He left after a couple years for a small defense practice because he wanted to pursue his original aspiration.

Sutter says he had no feelings for the Kushner company or any other company.

Lawyer Drew Rabinowitz says he did not regret his years working for the Kushners and other landlords.

He was almost always facing off against people who lacked their own attorney.
