Q: My 98-year-old aunt wants my husband to take care of her 6-year-old dog after she dies. What should I do?

A 98-year-old great aunt, "Gemma, is in failing health and doesn't have much time left.

She has offered to make me her sole beneficiary on the condition that I take Alfie upon her death and care for him for the rest of his life.

My husband thinks we can work something out where we will be able to keep them separated.

I am decidedly against it.

An acquaintance invited him to a wedding on the other side of the country, but he's not really close to the bride.

I was planning to visit him the week before the wedding and take him out for a drink or dinner.

I'm not sure what the right approach is here, as I doubt I’d know anyone at this event besides the groom.

Ask your wife if there’s a compromise to be made here: Is it possible for you to accompany the friends on part of the vacation instead of staying for the whole week ? Your wife will need to decide whether she's able to respect the fact that you have separate relationships with the members of this group.
