•Materialism on the Ropes – Tyler Hummel
66% Informative
The Twilight of Atheism predicted in 2004 that atheism was already in decline.
But Spencer Klavan's new book Light Of The Mind, Light Of the World: Illuminating Science Through Faith asks if secularism and materialism have become a spent force.
Klavan : Materialism has always raised hard problems for our understanding of persons and human being as a “chemistry set in the meat sack moving through balls balls”.
Klavan spends the majority of the book unfolding a narrative about materialist philosophy and how it came to dominate science (and society more broadly) He argues that the world gains meaning only when it interacts with the mind.
Science proved capable of reliably answering questions, liberating man from the stifling restrictions of organized religion, but new gods (referred to by Klavan as the “small gods”) came in their wake.
