California Gov. Gavin Newsom's adjutant general decapitated the state's volunteer firefighting units, a retired general says

California Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed Matthew Beevers to serve as adjutant general of the California Military Department in May 2023 .

Beevers has a history of marching in LGBTQ pride parades and was investigated for alleged antisemitism against a subordinate.

California is now struggling to contain destructive wildfires, which have killed 25 people and displaced more than 80,000 .

Under Beevers, the State Guard uniform changed so it no longer looks like the National Guard , enlisted leader says.

The lack of appreciation is causing State Guard to lose enlisted members because they don’t feel welcomed, he says.

California ’s elected leaders, all of whom are Democrats , have been under scrutiny for their failure to mitigate the damage caused by the wildfires.
