Nearly two-thirds of Colorado school districts operate on a four-day schedule, according to the Colorado School Finance Project .

Of the more than 2,100 schools in over 850 school districts across 26 states, the majority are in the western U.S. A shortened week brings up concerns, such as student mental health, food provision and reduced time for classroom instruction.

The district mandates one working Friday per month , and the other Fridays are available to teachers for professional or personal development.

Many high schoolers are utilizing their fifth day to work internships or take extra classes through the community college.

Some coaches still hold Friday practices, but during daytime hours so students can begin their weekend earlier .
