Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko sets world record for total time spent in space

Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko has set a world record for total time spent in space, beating his compatriot Gennady Padalka who logged more than 878 days in orbit.

Kononko , 59 , who undertook his fifth space flight to the International Space Station last year , is now on course to reach 1,000 days in space on June 5, 2024 .
