The US supreme court issued a code of conduct on Monday , declaring that the court would adopt the new ethics code.
On the surface, this looked like a positive step, but it's not much better than nothing.
The code is based on a binding code that is applied to judges on the lower courts but significantly weakened in its application to the supreme court justices.
Moira Donegan : Code seems evidence of chaos, disagreement and discord on the court.
This kind of softening edit appears throughout the code, she says.
Code has no enforcement mechanism, no way to investigate whether a justice has broken the code.
This is, after all, the same court has refused to cooperate with congressional oversight of its own ethical misdeeds.
