CRTC hearing delves into home internet choice, standardized label proposal

87% Informative
Day 2 of a four-day CRTC hearing is part of its consultation on how to help consumers shop for home internet plans.
The regulator launched the process in December , saying consumers had complained about difficulties in comparing options.
The concept has been compared to nutrition labels containing serving size and calorie data.
Similar rules were recently implemented by the CRTC ’s American counterpart.
“Adding additional metrics that are not as relevant to consumers is going to overload the disclosure, and in some cases lead to decision paralysis for consumers,” said Molly Samuelson , director of regulatory affairs for telecom policy and regulatory legal counsel for Telus . The hearing, which resumes Thursday , is scheduled to hear from Rogers Communications Inc. , the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-Television Services and the Competition Bureau in its remaining two days ..
