Two ornate chairs said to have once belonged to Marie Antoinette's chambers in Versailles .
They were declared "national treasures" by the French government in 2013 , at the request of the palace.
The Palace expressed an interest in buying the chairs but the price was deemed too dear.
The chairs were instead sold to Qatari Prince Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani for an eye-watering 2 m ( 1.67 m).
Lawyer for Versailles says lecturer had access to archives of royal furniture at the French palace.
Mr Pallot and Mr Desnoues helped forge fakes that had all the visual appearance of an authentic, up to inventory numbers and period labels.
Prosecutor Pascal Rayer said the trial highlighted the need for more robust regulation of the art market.
