The storm smashed into the North Carolina mountains last September , killing more than 100 people and causing an estimated $60 billion in damage.
About a third of the town’s businesses were “totally destroyed” and several are gone for good.

The Broad River Inn , among the oldest businesses in town, has been flooded twice since Helene struck.
