'Pressure point': Banff townsite clocks record 6.7 million vehicles in 2024

72% Informative
Banff National Park saw a slight dip in visitors to the iconic Canadian destination last year .
The number of visitors went from 4.288 million in the 2023 fiscal year ( April 1 to March 31 ) to 4.230 million for the same period in 2024-25 .
Last year there were about 60 days in the summer when the town recorded more than 24,000 vehicles at its entrances, the threshold for having a traffic jam.
The provincial government has embarked on a $9-million feasibility study for passenger rail projects across the province.
A line from Calgary to Banff is part of that work.
Calgary and Edmonton could eventually be connected by high-speed rail, while other links throughout the province would be at conventional speeds.
