Bloomington North's tennis coaches Barb Mills and Ken Hydinger have been anxiously pining for the better part of a decade to see their home courts remade.
The contractors, coming from out of town, showed up earlier than expected on April 30 .
In its place will be 10 new tennis courts, five on each side of a walkway, built this summer .
The courts were constructed around the same time as the school in 1972 and were built on the hillside in three tiers.
Soccer teams are finding themselves playing more and more on turf fields in part because it will reduce the amount of games lost to weather.
South is also getting an upgrade in its gym this spring as the bleachers are being completely replaced.
"I'm very excited but it's also bittersweet since I played on that grass field," new South boys soccer coach Jake Kabrick said.
