Significant tornado in city limits would be 'catastrophic' for Calgary, says meteorologist

67% Informative
Officials from the Calgary Emergency Management Agency ( CEMA ) presented their annual report to council’s emergency management committee.
The months of June to August present the highest-level severe weather risks for Calgary .
Climate change, urbanization, technological reliance and other factors are increasing, officials said.
Tornadoes are relatively common in Alberta , with an average of 12 to 15 confirmed tornadoes per year.
CEMA is planning to update the city’s Municipal Emergency Plan this year to better prepare for future emergencies and improve resilience, Duerr said. “We’ll continue to provide members of the committee with focused examinations on the risks identified in the 2022 disaster risk report,” he said..
