NIH director Jay Bhattacharya announced Sunday that the agency 'got rid of all the beagle experiments on the NIH campus' White Coat Waste claims the lab has pumped pneumonia-causing bacteria into more than 2,000 beagles' lungs and forced them into septic shock.
The lab closure is part of a new initiative to reduce reliance on animal experiments in biomedical research, and instead prioritize 'human-based research technologies'.
