So far, 70 human cases of bird flu have been confirmed, according to the CDC .

The virus has infected more than 1,000 herds across 17 states, the U.S. Department of Agriculture says.

There is currently no evidence the virus is spreading between people, and the CDC has said the risk to the general public is low.

Earlier this year , a dairy cow was found to be infected with another type of bird flu for the first time.

Moderna was awarded approximately $590 million from the federal government to help speed up the development of an mRNA-based bird flu vaccine.

There is no evidence of human-to-human transmission yet, or that the virus has mutated.
