Abortion rights groups in Alabama have resumed work after a federal judge ruled they can’t be prosecuted for helping people seek abortion abroad

A federal judge ruled in early April that the state’s attorney general can’t prosecute — or threaten to prosecute — people or organizations who help Alabama residents seek an abortion by traveling to another state.

Alabama has one of the strictest bans on abortion in the country — with no exceptions for rape or incest.

Before the Dobbs decision, WAWC provided abortion as part of its services.

It continues to offer free reproductive health care, including prenatal care, contraception, and HIV testing.

The attorney general could file an appeal, but now it’s unclear whether his office will do so.
