Calgary Fire Chief Steve Dongworth presented his annual report to a city council committee last Wednesday .

Dongworth said the Calgary Fire Department will be challenged by the threat of U.S. tariffs, as well as supply chain issues.

A fire truck now costs 50 per cent more than it did pre-pandemic, according to Dongworth .

The Alberta Fire Chiefs Association has also sounded the alarm about tariffs.

“It helps us to identify supply disruptions, impacts on specific contracts and educate and learn from the past on what impact these disruptions have on a specific contract.” The city has also developed an estimated tariff exposure calculator, which Patil said uses an advanced forecasting model to estimate tariff-related impacts across different commodities. The tool is available to any of the city’s contract-holders, he added..
