What to do to prevent a coyote attack if you cross paths with one

53% Informative
A southwest Calgary resident reported that her dog was snatched by a coyote while on a walk on Signal Hill .
Coyote attacks generally stem from defensiveness or mistaking small animals as prey, expert says.
Attacks are most likely during the end of May and end of the September going into early October , Shelley Alexander says.
“Leave the area,” she said. In some cases, yelling at the coyote may prompt it to move away. Deterrence could also include carrying a paper bag, which can be inflated and popped. “They don’t really recognize the sound and they can’t figure out how the human has this big, bulbous thing,” she said, which startles them and prompts them to move away..
