As the Chicago Cubs try to fill the void of Justin Steele’s season-ending surgery, a trade might not work

73% Informative
Chicago Cubs left-hander Justin Steele is set to undergo season-ending elbow surgery.
The Cubs will “of course” make calls on trade possibilities, but the type of starting pitcher who would be a proven upgrade is usually not available this early in the season .
Trying to pull off a trade for a starter of Steele ’s caliber is complicated in part by how aggressive and over-the-top the offer would likely need to be.
The Cubs still have fewer big blowups by the bullpen, but given the focus on building depth and the options they can consider at Triple A , swapping out relief arms if something isn't working should be a lever they rely on this year .
“This is kind of a gauntlet that we're going through right now, the NL West is no joke, these guys are really good over here and we’ve played them really well,” Pressly said.
