But they also planted the seed for a future showdown over a new source of funding for the troubled transportation authority.
The province didn't quite admit to it publicly, however.
The money would ensure stability and fund expanded bus services over next three years .
The last B.C. Liberal government insisted the region put a referendum on a sales tax surcharge to fund TransLink.
The regional electorate rejected the increase by a vote of 61 per cent , as Metro leaders will no doubt recall.
Probably the mayors won’t want to take the lead in securing public support for any new source of revenue either.
