Facebook parent Meta's landmark antitrust trial begins Monday. Here's what to know.

81% Informative
Meta Platforms Inc. , the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp , is facing off with the Federal Trade Commission in a landmark antitrust trial that could result in the tech giant's breakup.
The FTC accuses Meta of "anticompetitive conduct," alleging that the company's ownership of the two has extended its grip on the social media market too far.
The outcome of the case will determine whether Zuckerberg 's Meta empire will be forced to break apart.
The FTC initially filed the suit in 2020 , during President Trump 's first term in office.
A federal judge cleared the path for the case to proceed after the FTC brought forth more evidence in an amended complaint.
Today is the first day of the trial between the government agency and the social media giant.
