Ottawa -based accountant Marlene L. Grant says you need to file your tax return on time even if you can't pay the bill.
The late-filing penalty charged by the Canada Revenue Agency is five per cent of your 2024 balance owing, plus an additional one per cent for each full month that you file after the due date to a maximum of 12 months .
The tax filing deadline this year is April 30 , while the self-employed have until June 16 this year because June 15 lands on a Sunday .
