Mikenna Pattrin was recruited to play softball at Bemidji State to play for the Beavers .
Pattrin joined the club rugby team at the start of the freshman year at BSU .
Coach Kevin Baird asked Pattrin if she was interested in becoming a thrower, and Pattrin said she was a natural thrower.
Pattin has become a leader for the women's track and field team.
The shot put thrower broke into the NCAA Division II College Indoor rankings at No. 48 for the first time in her career.
Pattrin is a double major in aquatic biology with an emphasis in fisheries and wildlife biology.
She will attend South Dakota State next fall for grad school in a program for wildlife.
Pattrin still plays recreational softball during the summer .
Pattrin says she still feels connected to the game in her own way.
“Just because softball didn’t work out for me in college, I feel like I found another avenue and made the best out of it,” Pattrin said.
