More than 190 countries will attempt to mount a final push to agree on a landmark pandemic treaty.

The aim is to make the world safer and more secure.

The value and virtue of multilateralism itself are on the line.

The new American administration began withdrawal from the WHO and Argentina is doing the same.

At this point, to be a success, the treaty just needs to be good enough to help countries work together when the next pandemic hits.

Rich countries need to give on issues including technology transfer and pathogen access and benefit sharing.

Developing countries must commit to investing in steps to prevent pandemics, including in animal health.
