Scores of child-care centers at risk after Trump officials gut federal office

The GSA abolished its child-care office this month , firing all but one of the employees who didn’t take the deferred resignation offer.
Child-care advocates and former employees expect the office’s closure to result in less oversight and higher costs.
At least half of the children at these centers are required to be children or dependents of federal employees, though many families with no ties to the government use them.
Of the 82 child-care centers listed on the GSA website, 15 are in D.C. , 10 are in Maryland and one is in Virginia .
The GSA -overseen centers play an outsize role in the Washington -D.C. region.
One former GSA employee said the office was neglected and underfunded by the agency’s leadership.
