B.C.'s affordability issues overshadowed by tariffs in federal campaign, say voters

One third of Canadians ranked dealing with tariffs as their No. 1 election concern, while roughly the same number said it is electing a prime minister who would improve their lives.

For residents of B.C. , Canada ’s most expensive province, improving their lives was the top concern at 36 per cent .

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre and the NDP will want to highlight the Liberals ’ failures, such as “botching” affordable housing, professor says.

Affordability has been a central theme in the federal election, with many voters concerned about the cost of living.

One of the largest voting cohorts in this federal election will be seniors, of which Vesanto Melina , 83 , is one.

Melina is disappointed the Liberals abandoned their promise to bring in proportional representation, and said Carney has gone “backwards” on climate change.

In Prince George , both current MPs are Conservatives , but Bird said she does not support that party.

She argues it is crucial that important issues such as the economy, women’s rights and reconciliation with Indigenous people don’t get overshadowed by the other important issue dominating the campaign trail.
