President Donald Trump 's approval rating has ticked down in recent weeks , but he still remains above water in most of the states he won last November .
Historically, the party of the president in power has suffered midterm losses, and a low approval rating for Trump would make a victory an easier feat for Democrats .
But in key battlegrounds, he remains either tied or slightly underwater two months into his administration.
Only 27 percent of Hawaii residents approve of him, compared to 70 percent who disapprove, according to Civiqs .
Trump is 20 points underwater in Illinois , where 58 percent of residents disapprove of him and 38 percent approve.
About 67 percent of Idaho voters approve of Trump , while 30 percent disapprove of his job performance two months into his term.
Trump won the state by about 13 points last year .
In New Hampshire , only 36 percent of respondents told Civiqs they approve of Trump , while 60 percent said they disapprove of his performance so far.
In New Mexico , 57 percent of residents disapprove of Trump while 39 percent approve of him.
Trump remains popular in Utah , with 58 percent approving of him and 39 percent disapproving of his job performance.
