Sony A7R V review: A 61-megapixel giant

The Sony A7R V was revolutionary when it was released back in October 2022 , but is it still worth buying in 2025 ? We've put it to the test for astrophotography, wildlife photography and everything in-between to see whether it's still worth its price tag.

A successor hasn't been confirmed by Sony yet, but rumors are circulating that an 80MP beast could be announced in 2025 .

The Sony A7R V has an impressive 61MP sensor, but images are noisy due to the noise.

The LCD screen is the joint-largest alongside the new A1 II and has the highest resolution (albeit only just) at 2.1 M dots.

The refresh rate is up to 120 FPS , so a downside is that it doesn't offer blackout-free shooting.

We were impressed with the subject detection and tracking, particularly in Animal/Bird mode.

The Sony A7R V has eight stops of image stabilization.

Burst rate is underwhelming, but not dealbreaking, but it's much more capable for low-light photography.

It can shoot 440 shots using the electronic viewfinder or 530 using the LCD screen.

It's compatible with faster CFexpress cards, a huge plus for professional photographers.
