The Louisville Bats came to Louisville in 1982 as the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals .

The team's name has undergone several changes over the years , starting as the Redbirds , then briefly becoming the RiverBats before settling on the Bats.

The new logo features subtle references to Louisville and Kentucky .
