The White House has confirmed the authenticity of the chat reported by the Atlantic ’s editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg .
There were 18 people on the group chat, as reported by Goldberg , including a Green Beret who served two combat tours in Afghanistan and advocated for U.S. troops to remain in Afghanistan during a discussion with Trump in 2020 .
A Fox News host has denied sending “war plans” to colleagues and attacked Goldberg .
An account with the initials “S M” wrote that the president had given the operation a green light.
Other top officials who appeared to be on the group chat included Marco Rubio , Tulsi Gabbard , Scott Bessent , John Ratcliffe , Steve Witkoff and Joe Kent .
