A new study shows the impact plastic pollution can have on migratory birds and chicks.

The study looked at young sable shearwaters, often found migrating between Japan and Australia ’s Lord Howe Island , who were given plastic by their parents.

Through blood tests, researchers could see the plastic had caused major health issues to the birds, causing damage to their liver, stomach, brain, and kidneys.

This damage causes issues “akin to Alzheimer's disease”.
