Cowboys announce $5M in performance-based bonuses; this unlikely player got biggest bump

The league announced its performance-based pay totals for the past season on Wednesday .

The Performance-Based Pay program was first implemented in 2002 as part of the league's Collective Bargaining Agreement with the players union.

The bonuses are meant primarily as a way to reward players with relatively low salaries for turning in high snap counts for their on-the-field contributions.

DeMarcus Lawrence took home $10 million in base salary for playing on just 15% of the defense's snaps.

Quarterback Dak Prescott pocketed $ 10,500 for playing 43% of Dallas ' snaps this season .

The four -time Pro Bowler also pocketed another $ 7,700 as he left for the Seahawks .
