The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 324 points, or 0.8 per cent , as of 11:30 a.m. Eastern time.
The S&P 500 was down 0.9 per cent in midday trading, coming off a dizzying stretch where it set a record and briefly tumbled as much as 10 per cent from the mark within just a few weeks .
