Whitecap Resources and Veren Energy announce $15-billion merger.
The deal will create the country’s seventh -largest petroleum producer.
Whitecap will be “more resilient and better able to manage the current macro (economic) environment,” Whitecap CEO Grant Fagerheim said.
Crescent Point bought assets in the Duvernay from Shell Canada for $900 million in February 2021 .
It followed up the deal with the $2.6-billion takeover of Hammerhead Energy .
Analysts noted Veren investors will receive an implied premium of 39 per cent to Veren ’s closing share price on Friday .
