VPD officer suffers serious injuries after being slashed in DTES

A Vancouver police officer was sent to hospital with serious injuries Tuesday night after a random attack in the Downtown Eastside neighbourhood.
A man slashed one of the officers several times in the leg with an edged weapon.
Solaris Onatta Running Dey , 29 , has been charged with aggravated assault and assault of a peace officer with a weapon.
The attack comes as Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim has pledged to crack down on crime in the DTES .
