Supreme Court to hear arguments over Mexican government's suit against U.S. gunmakers

82% Informative
The Supreme Court is set to consider whether to block the Mexican government's effort to hold U.S. gun companies accountable.
The case lands before the high court as it has emerged as a bargaining tool in negotiations between President Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum .
A federal district court in Massachusetts dismissed the suit in September 2022 , but a federal appeals court revived it in January 2024 .
The Mexican government says gun manufacturers deliberately sell large quantities of their products through red-flag dealers.
One dealer sold more than 650 guns to straw purchasers recruited by a drug cartel, the government alleges.
Mexico says it has "tried to stem this relentless tidal wave" of gun violence.
