The People’s Union USA , an activist group, called for a 24-hour economic blackout.

They called for everyone to avoid spending any money for 24 hours on February 28 .

A Colorado Springs economist said a day -long protest could have some impact, but likely, only in the short-term.

He said a general protest that doesn't name a specific company or corporation isn’t likely to see any widespread impacts.

Small businesses are hurting, like a lot of small businesses, because of a larger interest in online shopping and shopping with corporations.

“I think at the end of the day , we say we want these things, but then we still go back and shop at Walmart ,” said Craig .

Nonetheless, Craig said while corporate culture is deeply ingrained in American culture, that doesn’t necessarily mean protests like the economic blackout won't work.
