Calgary tow trucks not invited to collisions can face lofty fine under new rules

55% Informative
Bylaw amendments approved by Calgary city council Tuesday prohibit any towing service vehicle from approaching within 200-metres of a collision or incident unless requested by emergency responders or the vehicle’s owner.
Operators that violate the 200-meter zone could face a $ 10,000 fine, the maximum a municipality can impose without declaring an offense egregious through the City of Calgary Charter .
In Edmonton , a bylaw prohibits “solicitation at a collision scene,” but only carries a $ 250 fine.
