New Zealand FM meets China's Wang Yi in Beijing, raises PLA live-fire drills
88% Informative
China and New Zealand should become partners of mutual trust and address differences through constructive dialogue, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his counterpart Winston Peters at a meeting in Beijing on Wednesday .
Peters is on a three-day visit to China - the first by a foreign minister from New Zealand since March 2023 .
He said that Beijing did not give adequate notice of the live-fire naval drill beforehand, calling it a failure in the special relationship.
Beijing is concerned about Wellington 's potential involvement in Pillar 2 of the Aukus security pact between Australia , Britain and the US , which focuses on cutting-edge defence technology.
Peters told reporters that China did not raise the issue at all during the meeting - probably because in Beijing 's view it has already conveyed its position.
