Fans lament demolition of Calgary's 'cathedral of baseball,' Foothills Stadium

71% Informative
The historic Foothills Stadium in Calgary has officially met the wrecking ball.
Built in 1966 , the ball park housed many of Calgary ’s minor-league professional and semi-pro baseball teams.
With little usership in the past 15 years , the park has been in a state of disrepair.
The decision to tear down the stadium was driven by many factors, including health and safety concerns.
A former front office employee for the Cannons said he hopes the city installs some sort of memorial, be it a plaque or the home plate from the diamond.
“It’s a sad day to see a big facility like that in Calgary , something that had a huge chunk of sports history in the city, gone,” he said.
