This video is based off of a book called an Atlas of extinct countries by Gideon Dafoe .
It goes through the remarkable and occasionally ridiculous stories of 48 nations that fell off the I read this book.
I actually went to one of these, and some of these I had never even heard of.
The Republic of Cospaya is the name of a microstate in what are now Italy .
Pope Eugene the 4th basically went up to the Medici family and was like hey, I need some money. He sold them some land and they divided on a border of a river.
But they didn't realize the river split into a double tributary, which left a bunch of land in between them.
From there they kind of made their own country. They didn't really organize a government, though.
In the 1600 's, Brazil was mostly under the Portuguese , a little bit of the Dutch in the area of what is now Hissy .
Many of the former slaves ran away from their plantations and into the forests.
So many of them to the point where they created Qui Lombos , or it kind of translates to like a community of towns, like a Township or something.
