Fired VA health workers reinstated, but new staff don't trust Trump and Musk

More than 1,000 VA employees were fired amid the sweeping layoffs of federal workers across the government last week .
The firings are part of an effort by President Donald Trump and his top advisor, multibillionaire tech CEO Elon Musk , to radically shrink the size of the federal workforce.
Democratic lawmakers and VA healthcare workers say the cuts and their impact on morale will affect VA care.
VA Secretary Doug Collins took to social media to dispel the "whopper" that critical services would be cut.
Veterans Crisis Line workers were fired and then reinstated, Sen. Tammy Duckworth says.
"No one wants to work for the VA if they're treated like this," a federal employee says.
The VA crisis line maintains 1,100 responders stationed throughout three call centers.
Suicide rates for veterans remain much higher than the American population.
