‘Revenge porn’ abusers allowed to keep devices with illicit images

Of 98 cases involving intimate image abuse cases in England and Wales in the past six months , just three resulted in a deprivation order.

CPS said more must be done to “stop perpetrators retaining these images and continuing to take gratification from their crimes” The Observer analysis looked at cases of sharing or threatening to share intimate photos of a person without consent.

Of 98 defendants, 54 were also given restraining orders lasting from one to five years .

Three cases where prosecutors did request deprivation orders included one in December in Bromley , southeast London .

Conservative peer Charlotte Owen said she was “appalled’ that content was being destroyed in so few cases.

The government responded that it would be “constitutionally inappropriate” to do so.
