The Badminton Hotel was built as the Manor House in 1889 .

It was an elaborate Victorian with three levels of verandas that wrapped around the building.

When it was torn down 47 years later it was still striking, but it might have had the biggest and most ornate turret in the city.

Prohibition arrived in B.C. on Oct. 1, 1917 , and the hotel became The Badminton Rooms .

It was replaced by a two -storey commercial building in 1936 .

A 14 storey office tower built in 1977 is now on the site, which is called 625 Howe.
