A.J. Stanat defended his title in the men’s weight throw on Friday with a new personal-best toss of 17.48 metres to claim the gold medal in the opening event of the two-day OUA track and field championships.

Stanat came into the event seeded second overall, but put up his massive mark in the second round to take the lead and won the event comfortably by 74 centimetres .

The Vista Academy Vortex are headed to the OFSAA boy's AA basketball championship with a 49 -44 road win over the Great Lakes Wolfpack in Sarnia on Thursday .
