Lorne Gunter: Road-clearing bureaucrats need to recognize that Edmonton is a winter city

61% Informative
The City of Edmonton has been plowing snow since the 1940s .
But each year it seems to come as a surprise that we get snow on our streets in winter and, worse yet, we ungrateful city residents expect it to be removed.
This year it’s ruts everywhere, in addition to the usual glut of potholes and poor lane visibility caused by inadequate snow plowing and bad line painting.
City could plow major streets down to clear pavement for the same money it annually pumps into its Blatchford eco-fantasy.
