Calgary watchmaker sees surge in interest for Canadian-made timepieces amid tariff dispute

70% Informative
Mark Griffiths is a Calgary -based custom watchmaker who designs and assembles watches in his home-based workshop.
Griffiths has been committed to keeping as much of his production in Canada as possible.
His watches generally retail for around $500 to $600 CAD , a reasonable price compared to some designer watches that can retail in the thousands .
In 2024 , Griffiths won a Made in Alberta Award for his Sandon model, a timepiece inspired by Canada 's railway history.
Griffiths is seeking an alternative supplier for the leather used in his watch straps.
Griffiths says he wants to be supportive of the Canadian movement away from American goods.
He says the decision is not about "hitting back, but about “camaraderie for Canadian producers”.
