Bolton has recorded 713 sightings of knotweed within 2.5 square miles ( 4km ) Redcliffe in Bristol a district bordering the city centre ( 517 instances) and central Cardiff (460) Environet estimates approximately 5 per cent of homes, or 1.5million properties, in the UK are affected by the superweed.

Mrs Parsons claimed the knotweed originates from a neighbouring property owned by the Housing Association .

She alleges the association refuses to help control the spread of the Japanese knotweed.

She said: 'I'd sell it if I could but it is unsellable. No one would want to buy a house with knotweed all over the garden'.
