Life in Vietnam | Huey Pilot Bob Redman | RAAF 9 Squadron
71% Informative
The 9th squadron in Vietnam had about 36 pilots or thereabouts by at that stage.
Everyone gets checked out and flies on the Bush Rangers , but most would only fly as Capehol .
And then the others would end up being a slick captain or a medevac captain, including me.
The fire squadron was a really good grounding and it trained the feeder squadron.
Every morning at dawn , 4 slicks and two gunships would head north for Nuidat , which is about 15 minutes away up in the province.
And then they'd come back at dusk unless there was a war going on, and they'd probably stay back.
When the Americans started pulling out in late 1979 , squadron took over formal responsibility for medevac.
