On the Road: A walk in the cold

It was the first time I’ve frosted up this winter in southern Alberta this winter.
I was looking for the swans my pal Mike had seen earlier in the day .
I didn’t really expect to see them given the heavy mist on the Bow River but it was worth taking a look.
A pileated woodpecker gobbled down frozen berries and let me get quite close to it.
A dead-end road runs along the west rim of the area and the views are spectacular.
Downtown Calgary is easily visible on a clear day .
The grassy slopes host herds of elk, lots of deer and the occasional bear and cougar.
The sun was deceptively warm and it felt a lot nicer than the -23C the dash thermometer read.
